Indigo Blu Danes
Reviews
Sarah we are so sincerely thankful to have found you and are truly infinitely thankful, not only for your expertise, but for the unreserved level of devotion you have demonstrated throughout every step of this process. We have seen the tremendous love, care and concern you have demonstrated both for your beautiful, cherished Indie and for each and every one of her absolutely stunning angel babies. You have sacrificed, stayed up all night to ensure their health, invested both financially and emotionally, and proven yourself both a true lover of the breed and an absolute angel to them! I am therefore eager to share this post with you and invite you to share it with any prospective current or future adopters. God bless you, your husband and your children…you all make Indigo Blu Danes the very best of the best! ❤️…
As someone who recently invested a tremendous amount of time & energy researching Great Dane breeders, I feel compelled to respond to a posted inquiry I came across when chatting with other Great Dane lovers in a group to which I belong. The post indicated that the author was searching for a Great Dane puppy for his family because he loves the breed, but he definitely wasn’t interested in an “overpriced hoity-toity thoroughbred” because they weren’t “breeder dog people” looking to compete in shows or breed themselves, rather they just wanted a family pet. Seemed like a clear case of Strong Opinion Based On Weak Information (or none at all) Syndrome. When a Great Dane is WELL & RESPONSIBLY BRED, he is one of the most magnificent creatures on Earth, capable of human-like emotion & intelligence, kind-heartedness & compassion beyond measure, and more loyalty & devotion to his family than many humans. Responsible breeders produce creatures that go on to be both physically and emotionally healthy and loving family members. The strict breeding protocol to which they adhere requires both financial and emotional investment, along with remarkable time, effort, devotion & personal sacrifice. These breeders invest in extensive medical tests and evaluations of both the physical health & genetic propensity of potential parents, not because they are “ hoity-toity“, rather to ensure that they are selecting only parents with the greatest likelihood of producing puppies that will go on to be free of both physical & psychiatric illnesses. This is evidence of true LOVE for the breed, as it does not actually yield the greatest profit, rather it produces family members who won’t be inclined to break both your hearts and bank accounts in a year or two when a plethora of health issues begin to emerge. Furthermore, consider this…these people who are selling puppies on the side of the road or over the internet at significantly lower price tags to anyone who can pony up the cash… do you think they are treating these animals they breed as treasured & cherished family members? I am here to tell you they are not! In recent months, I have come across countless “breeders”, many housing more than a dozen Great Danes in small outdoor cages in the heat, without mental stimulation or social interaction, all showing signs of everything from skin rashes, malnutrition & diarrhea to stress disorders and full blown psychiatric conditions. These owners breed them entirely too young (before the age of 2 years) & far too often, without consideration to ethical pairings, health or the best interests of the parents; rather their goal is to produce as many puppies as possible to sell at half the cost of anyone ethical. Females are known to be confined with countless males for as much as two weeks, enduring what more closely resembles a sexual assault than a responsible pairing, with the potential fathers being everything from blood relatives to males that should have been excluded as parental candidates because of reasons ranging from health problems or genetics to color violations known to produce deaf/blind puppies (many of whom are passed off as healthy and sold, or ultimately killed). Females are breed at their first heat and then over & over again until they can either no longer produce puppies at all or can no longer produce puppies that can be passed off as healthy for profit. They are useless then, and treated like trash for disposal. Does this sound like love for the breed? These people are skilled liars and imposters perpetrating fraud, a fraud that can cost you tremendously, both financially and emotionally, down the road. By purchasing from these people, you are not only encouraging & financially rewarding animal abuse, you are contributing to an industry that authorities have attempted to eradicate for decades. Is this really the choice of a self-professed Great Dane lover? All food for thought and something to consider for ANYONE who truly does love the breed and is considering the purchase of a puppy. Breeding absent medical evaluation of potential parents, along with willingness to sell puppies without an application process or a requirement of evidence of responsible ownership potential at a price tag that is too low to offset costs associated with responsible breeding and care should be red flags from which you RUN, not characteristics for which you search! Instead, please seek out only those who require you to apply for their puppies and who demonstrate a true desire to determine your candidacy as a loving, informed and capable Great Dane owner, along with a willingness to educate and assist you as an owner. These people will ask questions about your family and lifestyle, and will show true concern for pairing you with the right personality and temperament match, rather then allowing you to simply select any puppy you like based on appearances alone. They will want you to agree to return the puppy to them should you ever change your mind or have a change of circumstances such that you can no longer keep the dog. Such an agreement is evidence of true love and concern. You should actually observe IN PERSON evidence that the parent(s) are living in homes as loved and cherished, well-adjusted family member(s). Please ask to see both the actual pedigrees & documentation proving the parents were selected only after a proper medical evaluation of their candidacy as parents and that they they themselves are both physically and emotionally sound and that the pairing was ethical. Demand evidence of veterinary care for both puppies and parents. Yes, this requires a little more financial investment now, but pays off exponentially later, not to mention saving families potential heartache. Last but certainly not least, seek out the recommendation of someone like me…a person who has researched, done their due diligence, is experienced and appropriately critical, and who has nothing but HIGHLY POSITIVE remarks regarding every single aspect of their experience! This is absolutely invaluable! These are the actions of a true Great Dane lover. ❤️ ~Gwen Labosco
